Vince Coakley selected as 2005 COMM Distinguished Alum
EKU's Department of Communication 2005 distinguished alum is Mr. Vince Coakley. Mr. Coakley was honored during a presentation on Friday, April 1, 2005, at the annual College of Business and Technology Professional Skills Conference senior recognition luncheon.
The honor is reserved for special alumni who have distinguished themselves in their professions through excellence, dedication, and service.
Vince Coakley (1991, BA Broadcasting), Department of Communication
Mr. Coakley completed his BA in Broadcasting at EKU in 1991 and, today, is the main anchor at the NBC affiliate WSOC-TV in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Through a summer internship at WAVE-TV in Louisville, he launched a successful television news career progressing from street reporter to a main anchor position. Mr. Coakley’s career includes on-air reporting for Lexington, Kentucky, stations WLEX-TV and WKYT-TV.
He has covered notable, high-profile stories including the Nations Bank-Bank of America Merger in Charlotte, astronaut John Glenn’s return to space, the Columbine High School massacre, and hurricane coverage for CNN and ABC radio. Mr. Coakley is very active in his church and is joined today by his wife of 13 years, Debbie Coakley.
The college also honored distinguished seniors for the year as selected by their respective departments within the College of Business and Technology. In addition, recipients of scholarships and awards for the 2004-05 academic year were recognized. Students were honored for outstanding achievement and more than 40 area employers were on hand to engage in networking activities with college graduating seniors.
