Jason Epperson and Melissa Mollohan

EKU's Department of Communication 2008 distinguished alum is Mr. Jason Epperson. Mr. Epperson was honored during a presentation on Friday, April 4, 2008, at the annual College of Business and Technology Professional Skills Conference senior recognition luncheon.

The honor is reserved for special alumni who have distinguished themselves in their professions through excellence, dedication, and service.

Mr. Epperson earned his Bachelor of Arts in Broadcasting and Electronic Media from EKU in 2000.

Mr. Epperson is a native of Winchester, Kentucky, whose career in movies began quite early in life.  When he was just ten years old, he began making movies using his father’s old school camera – the kind you have to carry on your shoulder.  And today, he owns and operates his own film production company, Eppic Films, Inc., in Los Angeles, California.

After graduating from EKU, he worked as a studio camera operator and editor for several months for WTVQ NewsChannel 36 Lexington, Kentucky.  He then spent three years as a producer with Insight Media Advertising.  During his time with Insight, Mr. Epperson accumulated several statewide awards for commercials that he produced and directed, in most cases creating the spots from scratch from concept to editing.  He received a number of recognitions including the Employee of the Year award.

Mr. Epperson has also served as Director of Technology for Calvary Christian Church, producing video segments, designing the website, and supervising the Audio/Video Department.

The move to California is due to the FOX-TV program “On The Lot.”  In 2007, an exhaustive worldwide search of more than 12,000 applicants was held for filmmakers.  Steven Spielberg handpicked 50 filmmakers to participate in a competition to find the newest most talented director in the world.  After 14 weeks, Mr. Epperson was selected first runner-up and has also received a first option contract with DreamWorks in Hollywood.

Music videos have been his main focus and his work has been seen on all the major networks such as MTV, MTV2, CMT, GAC, and many others.

He is married to his wife, Cindi and has a two-year-old son, Isaiah.

Congratulations, Mr. Epperson, on being selected as the 2008 Distinguished Alumnus representing the Department of Communication.

The college also honored distinguished seniors for the year as selected by their respective departments within the College of Business and Technology. Ms. Melissa Mollohan was selected as the Communication departmental distinguished senior. In addition, recipients of scholarships and awards for the 2007-08 academic year were recognized. Students were honored for outstanding achievement and more than 40 area employers were on hand to engage in networking activities with college graduating seniors.
