Dan Mason selected as 2007 COMM Distinguished Alum

EKU's Department of Communication 2007 distinguished alum is Mr. Dan Mason. Mr. Mason was honored during a presentation on Friday, April 6, 2007, at the annual College of Business and Technology Professional Skills Conference senior recognition luncheon.

The honor is reserved for special alumni who have distinguished themselves in their professions through excellence, dedication, and service.

Mr. Mason is the President and Chief Executive Officer of CBS Radio.  A veteran of the radio broadcasting industry, he has come to be known as ‘one of the most respected and knowledgeable radio executives in the country.’  He returns to CBS Radio after serving as an adviser and consultant to CBS and other domestic and international companies in the radio broadcasting industry for the past five years.

Mr. Mason was first named President of CBS Radio in 1995 where he was responsible for the operation of the group’s 184 stations in the largest markets across the U.S.  As President of Infinity Radio, Mr. Mason successfully integrated the original CBS, Group W and American Radio Systems stations, among the most venerable radio broadcasting groups in the country, by merging operations, blending business styles and increasing profitability. 

Upon his retirement from CBS Radio in 2002, he was named Radio Executive of the Year by Radio and Records Magazine.  After five years of consultancy in the industry, he is returning to CBS Radio as President and Chief Executive Officer.

Mr. Mason is a native of Louisville, Kentucky, and a 1973 graduate of the EKU Broadcasting program.  He returned to the EKU campus this past December to address graduates at the fall commencement ceremonies and was given an honorary Doctorate of Humanities.  Mr. Mason has two sons and resides in suburban Washington, D.C.

Congratulations, Mr. Mason, on being selected as the 2007 Distinguished Alumnus representing the Department of Communication.

The college also honored distinguished seniors for the year as selected by their respective departments within the College of Business and Technology. Ms. Virginia Hawkins, a communication studies major and college distinguished senior, was selected as the Communication departmental distinguished senior. In addition, recipients of scholarships and awards for the 2006-07 academic year were recognized. Students were honored for outstanding achievement and more than 40 area employers were on hand to engage in networking activities with college graduating seniors.
