Golf and NASCAR don’t usually find each other in the same thought, but don’t tell me that.

Since I was 3 years old, I have been cheering on Jeff Gordon and the iconic number 24 team on and off the track. There are not many races I have missed, fewer than my two hands can count. NASCAR is my passion, but it does not stand alone.

Collin Potter Wins SGA Election

Collin Potter, a Marketing Research and Analytics senior from Mt. Sterling, has secured the student vote for President of the Student Government Association. As the newly elected SGA president, Potter will also serve as student representative to the EKU Board of Regents. Potter joined the SGA as a Student Senator in 2013 and has also served as treasurer and president of Theta Chi fraternity.

Givens joins ISWNE Board

Dr. Deborah Givens, assistant professor, Department of Communication, attended her first meeting as a member of the Board of Directors of the International Society of Weekly Newspaper Editors Feb. 19 and 20 in Austin, Texas.

Givens was elected to a three-year term on the Board during ISWNE’s 2015 conference at the University of Missouri.

Chad Miles Named MMIB Distinguished Alum for 2016

Sarah Smith, a Risk Management and Insurance junior from Berea, has received a Summer 2016 internship with Auto-Owners Insurance in Lexington. Auto-Owners Insurance is a strong company that has operated for over 95 years. It not only handles claims of auto-insurance but also life, home, boat, and other types. Smith will be handling several of these claims over the course of her summer.

Former Progress editor Robinson featured in SPJ Member Spotlight

Wesley Robinson, former editor of the Eastern Progress, has been featured in the Society of Professional Journalists “Member Spotlight.” Currently, Robinson is a reporter with The Patriot News of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He is a member of the Keystone Pro Chapter, and a past president of the student chapter at the University of Kentucky.
