EKU Maroon SHRM Students Give Back
Members of Eastern Kentucky University’s Maroon SHRM (Society of Human Resources Management) student organization had the opportunity to give back to our troops during this holiday season. On November 22, students gathered to fellowship and prepare care packages to send troops that are away from home.
Back row: Kevin Brown, Brooklyn, NY; Candice Coffey, Lexington, KY; Brad Hill, Danville, KY; Chris Hollingsworth, Lexington, KY; Nicole Sealey, Richmond, KY; and Laura Fields, Paintsville, KY.
Front row: Misty Brumley, Nicholasville, KY; Suzanne Laws, Richmond, KY; Sarah Newton, London, KY; and Beth Mattingly, Winchester, KY.
The group prepared ten care packages for our military troops in an effort to show support and appreciation for their commitment in serving our country. The packages included snacks, magazines, health and hygiene items. As a special touch, each student wrote a letter for the soldier who would be receiving the package, sharing their personal thanks for the contributions made by members of our armed forces.
The students enjoyed this time over a dinner and moments of reflection about the good times over the fall term within the SHRM organization. “We try to have some kind of service project to go along with our professional development and informational activities. The students decide what they want to do and I basically just stay out of their way while they do things. This term they wanted to do this project,” stated Allen D. Engle, Sr., Maroon SHRM advisor and Professor of Management in the College of Business and Technology at Eastern.
